Treatments For Pyoderma In Dogs

If your veterinarian suspects your dog is suffering from a case of pyoderma, they’ll carry out a physical examination of the affected area. Some vets will examine a skin sample under a microscope to confirm a diagnosis. In some instances, vets may order extra tests, including blood work, to figure out the root cause.

Once the vet confirms their diagnosis, they’ll usually prescribe a course of antibiotic treatment for your dog. It’s imperative to finish the full course of antibiotics even if it seems like the pyoderma has disappeared from your dog. Your vet may also suggest topical shampoos and lotions.

If your vet believes an insufficiently balanced diet is a cause of your dog’s condition, your vet can help you change your dog’s daily diet to a more nutritional one.
