Sheriff’s Volunteer Stops Truck Pulling Onto Highway With Dog Leashed To Bumper

Dog lovers watching this video might feel their hearts skip a beat or their stomachs drop. A quick-thinking volunteer for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) in Arizona prevented disaster when he pulled over the driver of a semi truck that had a dog leashed to its back bumper. The volunteer caught the whole incident on dashcam.

As a semi started rumbling out of a gas station and toward the interstate highway, a sheriff’s volunteer noticed a dog running behind it to keep up and honked his horn. When the driver didn’t stop, the volunteer turned on the lights and sounded the siren before pulling in front of the truck. If it weren’t for the volunteer’s quick actions, the truck might have dragged the dog onto the highway.

Apparently, the driver forgot that he had tied the dog to the bumper and was very grateful that the volunteer stopped him before something terrible happened. The trucker was distracted, and that’s when mistakes are most likely to happen. Authorities did not press charges against the trucker, who was just happy to have his dog safe and sound. Pet parents can certainly make mistakes, but this one could have been deadly. Always make sure your dog is accounted for when you are on the road, and never drive distracted. We all owe it to our dogs to be alert and responsible when we travel with them.
