Rafael Mantesso’s thirtieth birthday wasn’t the best. His wife left him and took everything they owned. When she shut the door for the last time, Rafael was left in a bare, white apartment with nothing except his Bull Terrier, Jimmy. Jimmy was thrilled to have lots of space to run around, and when he tired himself out, he lied down in front of a white wall and rested.
As Jimmy lied on the ground, Rafael found inspiration. He took a marker and began drawing on the walls around the pup. He created new scenes, putting his dog in different worlds, works of art, movie scenes, or whatever else came to Rafael’s imagination. He posted the photos on Instagram, and they became wildly popular.
Since then, Rafael’s artwork featuring Jimmy has been recognized around the world. He’s even releasing a book of some of his best work. Sometimes you can find inspiration in the worst moments, especially when your best friend is there to help you. Even blank, bare walls can become a new world.
