Our Story:
This is a very complicated story. I first starting looking for an adult dog when I was searching for an apartment near Eastern Kentucky University. I found an apartment and told my parents I really wanted a pet. They told me it was not a good idea. Well, I really did not listen to them and went to a local shelter. My roomie and I both adopted a cat each. We had the cats for about 3 weeks when I decided a cat was not for me.
So my roomie took Raja my cat and I started searching for an adult dog. I found many that I was interested in. I first tried to adopt a dachsund for the dachsund rescue and they declined me because they said I was a college student and I lived in an apartment.
Next I tried a shih tzu, min pin, and several other small breed dogs from purebred rescues. I was declined and discouraged now. I thought about getting a dog from a breeder but since I worked at Petsmart I thought that would not be a good idea.
I continued to search petfinder.com until I found what I thought was the best dog ever. She was a spaniel terrier mix and red in color. She was so beautiful. I emailed the agency and put in an application. I received a call the next day saying she was a adopted already but she just had pups. I told them I really did not want a pup because there were so many adult dogs out there that need homes.
Well, they insisted I look at the pictures of the pups and all. I did and I was sold. I had to have one. The one they told me about is the dog I have today. Her picture was so innocent and loveable. I could not say no.
I have had her since she was 10 weeks old and have loved and cherished every moment with her. She is now 2 years old and has completed basic obedience, and is working on becoming an agility dog. She loves it.
She turned out to be more than I can ask for. She is a one person dog but will allow other people to pet her and play with her. She is now a healthy 15 lbs and a very happy puppy. I would recommend adopting because rescue dogs are more grateful and make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside because you saved a life.
