January 17 is National Boxer Day. What better way to celebrate this breed than by highlighting all of the reasons you should welcome one of these adorable bullies into your home?

Here are three reasons why Boxers make great family pets.

They Protect Their Family

Boxers basically come with built-in security systems. These breed will stop at nothing to protect their family from danger, whether that comes in the form of intruders, a house fire, or carbon monoxide poisoning. As stated by the American Kennel Club, “They take the jobs of watchdog and family guardian seriously and will meet threats fearlessly.” With a fierce bark and sturdy, muscular appearance, nobody will be messing with your family anytime soon.

They Love Children

You probably couldn’t find a more kid-friendly breed than the loving Boxer. They are tolerant and patient — both necessary qualities when successfully dealing with children. They are also notorious softies; it’s almost like they think human babies are as cute as we think they are. As with all breeds, young children should still be supervised when playing with a Boxer.

They Are Always in a Good Mood

Good luck finding a Boxer who’s having a bad day. With their bubbly personality and drive for adventure, life with a bouncy Boxer is anything but dull. If your family is on the calmer side, a Boxer will be more than happy to curl up on the sofa with you to show you some affection. Basically, whatever you need, the Boxer is ready to give.

If you’re looking to add a Boxer to your home this National Boxer Day, remember to adopt, don’t shop. There are plenty of Boxers and Boxer mixes available in shelters across the country who are looking to give their love to a welcoming family.
