Dog Reunited With Family Two Weeks After Escaping Severe Car Crash

Authorities reunited a South Carolina dog with his family two weeks after he escaped a severe car crash that left both vehicles involved engulfed in flames.

Goofuss, a tiny Chihuahua mix playfully dubbed the “I-77 bandit,” survived entirely on his own from the time of escaping the crash until his rescue.

Goofuss Escapes Severe Car Crash

His dog mom, Jean Powers, explained Goofuss’s escape to a local news station, “I opened the door because I’m being crushed by these airbags and there was enough room for the dog to get out.”

Incredibly, Goofuss made his way into the woods, where he presumably roamed until he showed up on a woman’s porch two weeks later.

Although Chester County Animal Control placed traps alongside the highway, the dog never made his way back to the road.

“The dog never actually made it into the trap. He was just scared to go close to the road again,” explained Trisha Zimmerman with animal control.

The Importance of Microchipping

After Goofuss made his reappearance, animal control linked him with Powers through his microchip.

Animal control made note of this in a post on their Facebook, “We could not thank the community enough for their help in sharing this story and the loving family that found him and we hope it also bringing [sic] awareness about the importance of microchips!”

Goofuss’s rescue comes not long after two other incredible reunions. One reunion involves a pup who escaped a plane crash and found his way back to his owners. Another reunion involves a stolen dog brought back to her owners five years after thieves took her from her backyard. All of these brave dogs deserve a steak dinner, if you ask us.
