130 Pound Cane Corso Rescued After 20-Foot Fall

For most dog parents, having a pup go missing is a worst nightmare scenario. Out of watchful dog parents’ eyes, dogs can get hurt, get themselves stuck, or otherwise get into trouble. However, thankfully most dogs that run away are discovered quickly and found unharmed. Most of our pups will never be in a life-threatening situation — which is what makes stories like that of Cheedo the Cane Corso so unbelievable.

Barking for Help From the Bottom of a Well

Cheedo the Cane Corso wasn’t a stray or unowned. He simply escaped his dog parents’ attention for a short period of time and went wandering.

Unfortunately, he strayed over rotten planks of wood on a neighbor’s property. The planks were covering up a 20 foot drop into a long-abandoned well. Thankfully, Cheedo had the good sense to bark for help until he was discovered. Cheedo was lifted to safety with a rope, then taken to the local veterinarians’ office. Despite how scary the ordeal must have been, Cheedo was lucky enough to walk away with a clean bill of health.

Keeping Dogs Safe

Unfortunately, our pups don’t always have the best sense of safety when they get off leash. Dogs that get into bad situations aren’t always neglected or unattended. It’s easy for a pup to pull a leash free or slip out the door despite pet parents’ best intentions. While these events may be out of your control, there are some precautions you can take. Dogs are likely to bolt during events like the Fourth of July, in which even the most well-behaved pooch may grow so scared they run out an open door or even jump through a window. Being sure to enclose your pup in a safe space during these events reduces the risk of escape. Additionally, brushing up on good leash manners helps keep walks fun and safe.
