Queen Elizabeth II was known for her love of Corgis, and following her death in October her former daughter-in-law Sarah Ferguson adopted her last surviving canines along with ex-husband Prince Andrew.

And the Duchess of York revealed that she “spoils” the pups. She also described them as being “very nice, very polite, and well-trained”.

Sarah Ferguson – The Corgis’ Favorite

Prince Andrew gifted Corgis Muick and Sandy to the late Queen, and alongside his ex-wife now cares for the pups.

I am their favorite but everybody always says it’s just because I feed them gravy bones,” Ferguson told Hello in an interview. “I love everything about them and I spoil them the most.”

Andrew gave the Queen a Corgi, Muick, and a Dorgi, Fergus, – a Corgi-Dachshund mix – in 2021 during lockdown. However, Fergus died when he was just five months old, shortly after the Queen lost her husband Prince Philip.

So, for the Queen’s 95th birthday, Prince Andrew and daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie gifted the Queen another Corgi, Sandy.

Rising in Popularity

Corgis have always been popular dogs, but in the wake of the Queen’s death, internet searches for the breed skyrocketed. And Corgi puppies that would have been sold for £1,500 (about $1,800) by breeders had quadrupled in price.

In 2014, fewer than 300 Welsh Corgi puppies were registered with the Kennel Club. This lead it to put them on its “vulnerable native breeds” list. However, it removed them from the list four years later, as Corgis rose in popularity both due to the Queen and also Netflix’s “The Crown”.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson aren’t alone in being Corgi owners – there are a lot more around. And the American Kennel Club ranks the Corgi as being the 11th most popular breed. They’re quite intelligent, and while obedient when well-trained they can also be rather mischievous at times.
