Anderson Animal Shelter is located in the Fox Valley region of Illinois, with its primary shelter in South Elgin, as well as satellite locations in Bloomingdale and North Aurora. Established in 1966, it has been saving lives for over 50 years. They also provide education, training, and partnerships with other organizations that benefit animals around the country, often taking in animals that haven’t found adoptive families in other areas. They’re a no-kill shelter and only practice positive reinforcement techniques. Among their many services, they offer community outreach, humane education, low-cost spay/neuter services, training classes, and, if necessary, pet rehoming. Last year, they cared for 5,355 homeless dogs and cats, as well as 20 rats. That’s a lot of mouths to feed! Anderson Animal Shelter receives no federal or state funding and relies entirely on donations and volunteers. Every year, they host several fundraising/adoption events to engage local donors and potential adopters. Because it was October, and I can't resist dressing up myself or Leia -- preferably both -- we decided to be pumpkin-chic for the event.

The event took place on a gorgeous (gourd-geous?) October day, very sunny and only a bit chilly. It made for a great turn-out at the beautiful Batavia Riverwalk, starting at the Peg Bond Center.

There were lots of vendors with neat items and services for sale, and everyone enjoyed mingling and meeting new dog and human friends.

I had no idea we would get goodie bags. Wow! These were bursting full of neat treats, toys, and other swag from donors. I've never seen such a cute bag -- check out the ears! I'm not sure if Leia or I were more excited.

The route for the walking portion was completely customizable; you could walk for as much or as little as you wanted.

We decided to walk around the lake and take the path into the forest.

It was a wonderful day -- the perfect way to support a great animal shelter, meet community supporters, and have some fall fun.
