Shelter Dog Curls up on a Tiny Blanket Until One Human Gives Her What She’s Been Missing

A volunteer’s visit to the Maui Humane Society ended with an unexpected act of kindness for one shelter dog. After spotting Cherry asleep on a blanket inside her kennel, she decided the pup deserved a cozier place to rest. What happened next quickly won over viewers on Instagram. It also introduced many people to Cherry’s heartbreaking story.

Human sees shelter dog sleeping on a blanket and gives her a comfy bed she needed

The clip was shared by Cassondra Christman, a volunteer at the Maui Humane Society. As she was leaving the shelter, she noticed Cherry curled up on a blanket inside her kennel. Wanting to make the dog a little more comfortable, Cassondra decided to grab a dog bed before heading home.

The video shows her placing the bed inside Cherry’s kennel, and the pup doesn’t waste a moment. Cherry immediately hops onto the soft cushion, clearly appreciating the upgrade from the blanket she had been resting on just moments earlier. Her reaction becomes even sweeter as she enthusiastically thanks Cassondra with plenty of kisses. The simple exchange quickly resonated with viewers, but the video also revealed the heartbreaking story behind Cherry’s stay at the shelter.

According to text shown on the screen, Cherry was found wandering alone on a highway before she was brought to the Maui Humane Society. Despite efforts to reunite her with her family, no one ever came to claim her. Since then, she has been waiting patiently at the shelter in hopes that someone will finally give her a forever home.

In the video’s caption, Cassondra encouraged people to look beyond Cherry’s kennel and see the affectionate companion she is. “Sweet Cherry, she is SO friendly and SO sweet,” she wrote. “She has the cutest little underbite and loves her toys too.”

Cassondra shared a few additional details that could help potential adopters. As the caption notes, there is no information yet on how Cherry behaves around cats. She has, however, been neutral during playgroups with other dogs at the shelter. Cassondra suggested that families with another dog arrange a meet-and-greet first to make sure they are a good match.
