Honey, a protective foster dog and new mother, needed time before trusting Michael Henry inside her home. In a recent Instagram video from @cactustherescue, the mama dog rescue began with heavy growling. Michael was checking on Honey and her puppies alone. The clip showed why he slowed down, gave her space, and proved he was safe. Soon, one gentle peace offering changed their tense first meeting.
Rescuer didn’t rush to win the rescue dog’s trust
The video follows Michael as he tries to bond with foster dog mama Honey in a new home. According to the caption, Honey came from a terrible living situation. She protected her puppies the only way she knew. Michael said his first solo check-in went wrong because she greeted him with growls.
The on-screen captions show his first careful attempt. Honey answered with “heavy growling,” then moved away as the caption read, “That’s a no.” Michael did not push closer. He placed a striped mat on the garage floor and tried to show her he cared. Honey sniffed the mat and accepted what the video called a “peace offering.” She settled onto it while Michael stayed low and calm. That small choice changed the mood, because he let Honey decide when to move forward.
After that, he tried again with a softer voice and hand. He told her, “You can trust me,” and later, “You know I’m on your team, girl.” The mama dog rescue turned gentle when Honey lifted her paw into his hand. Michael wrote in the caption that he wanted to earn Honey’s trust instead of rushing her. It also said they are now buddies, and their bond grows stronger daily.
Viewers praised the patient rescue moment. One commenter wrote, “You’re the best.” Another added, “Love and care will win.” Others posted, “She’s so sweet and such a good mama, you are so kind for helping her and babies,” and “She finally feels safe. Just beautiful.”
