Walking through an animal shelter can be an emotional experience. Behind every kennel door is a dog hoping someone will pause, make eye contact, and perhaps see a future companion instead of another unfamiliar face. One recently shared rescue video captures a shelter dog whose unwavering excitement for every visitor showcases just how much he wants a chance at a home.
Shelter dog lights up every time someone stops by his kennel, hoping they’ll rescue him
The clip was shared by the rescue advocacy account @iloverescue, which regularly features animals in urgent need of homes. According to the Instagram post, Raul, a two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix, was scheduled for euthanasia on June 30.
In the video, Raul stands upright on his hind legs with his front paws resting against the kennel door. His tail wags rapidly throughout the encounter, and he remains completely focused on the person outside his enclosure. Meanwhile, his body language suggests he is eager to connect with anyone willing to stop and acknowledge him.
The accompanying caption describes Raul as an easy dog to bond with from the moment you meet him. According to the volunteer, he immediately comes forward when someone approaches his kennel and stays engaged for the entire interaction.
The post also notes that Raul gently accepted treats when they were offered through the kennel door. Even then, his attention remained fixed on the person in front of him, demonstrating what the volunteer described as a calm, steady, and people-oriented temperament.
Raul is not facing his uncertain future alone. The caption explains that he shares his kennel with his brother, Julian, who is also scheduled for euthanasia. The two dogs have been together throughout their stay at the shelter. They rely on each other for comfort during an already stressful experience.
“They’ve been side by side through all of this,” the caption states. It further adds that the brothers “have only ever known each other as their constant.” Both are intact male Pit Bull Terrier mixes housed at Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, California.
