The title “longest resident” isn’t one any shelter dog wants to carry. It usually means countless goodbyes to other pups, missed opportunities, and another night spent waiting. That’s the reality for Violet, a young dog whose story is now touching hearts through an Instagram video calling for her forever family.
This shelter dog has waited the longest and still has hope for a forever home
An Instagram video is bringing attention to Violet, a one-year-old shelter dog who has now spent 104 days waiting for a family. Shared by the account @sharing.lov, the Instagram Reel opens with Violet standing inside her kennel. Her tail is wagging as she looks toward the camera, offering a glimpse of a dog who remains hopeful despite months of waiting.
The story is told through on-screen text written from Violet’s perspective. It begins, “I’ve been here for 104 days,” before revealing how her identity at the shelter has changed. “They used to call me Violet…But now they call me ‘The longest resident.'”
As the video continues, viewers are shown what life has become for the young dog. Each morning, she waits with renewed hope that the day might finally bring her a family. One scene shows Violet sitting outdoors beside a volunteer, patiently watching people come and go. The text reads, “We sit outside and wait…Hoping someone will walk in and choose me!!!”
Unfortunately, that moment never comes. By the end of the clip, Violet quietly returns to her kennel, where she continues waiting for another chance.
The caption accompanying the post provides more of her story. Violet arrived at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta, Georgia, as a stray alongside one of her puppies. While her puppy was adopted quickly, Violet remained behind.
Weeks later, she finally got the chance she had been waiting for when someone adopted her. Sadly, the placement lasted only a few days. The family experienced an “unexpected emergency” and couldn’t keep her anymore, forcing Violet to return to the shelter.
Now back where she started, Violet has become the shelter’s “longest resident” and is currently the only dog on its urgent list. The post also explains that @barkvilledogrescue hopes to rescue Violet but first needs a foster home in Georgia. For anyone interested in adopting, transportation can also be arranged to other states across the country.
