People in a town in England have started slowing down traffic for one very fluffy reason. A senior Saint Bernard named Louis has become impossible to ignore while riding around in a motorbike sidecar beside his dad. The huge dog cruises through March, Cambridgeshire, with 78-year-old Alan Valkeith, who modified the sidecar of his Honda Gold Wing so Louis could comfortably tag along for the ride. And apparently, the pair have become a full-on local attraction without even trying.
Senior Saint Bernard has turned into local celebrity for motorbike sidecar rides with dad
According to BBC News, Alan said people regularly pull over just to snap photos of the dog sitting sweetly beside him. They often stop their vehicles specifically to capture the unusual sight. Some drivers even stop in the middle of their journey once they realize there is a giant Saint Bernard casually riding past them. The sight catches their attention because it appears completely normal despite being so unusual.
And Louis absolutely loves it. The second his harness comes out, the excitement apparently kicks in immediately. Alan told BBC News that Louis starts yanking because he already knows what is coming next, which feels very on-brand for a dog that now spends his afternoons rolling around town in a sidecar like a celebrity on tour.
The sweetest part is that Louis almost never had this kind of life. Alan adopted him around six years ago after the dog had reportedly been abandoned in Liverpool. Now the senior dog spends his days going on road trips, meeting strangers, and making random people smile at traffic lights. And the adventures are not slowing down either.
Alan is currently building what he calls a “doggy caravan” so Louis can stretch out and sleep comfortably during longer outings. One of their planned stops is Ferry Meadows in Peterborough once the little trailer is ready to go. Alan also mentioned that all four of his Saint Bernards over the years have travelled this way because he simply never liked leaving them behind at home. Lucky dogs, all of them.
