Golden Retriever Couldn’t Care Less About Dad’s Rules at Grandma’s

Ranger, the Golden Retriever puppy, is only one-year-old, but do not underestimate him, because he is a rebel — the kind that causes chaos and makes his dad laugh. His dad shared a video on Instagram via @goldenboyranger_, and it captures a negotiation with the dog. Safe to say, Dad’s attempt was doomed from the start. With the on-screen words reading “Begging my dog to be good when he’s at his grandma’s,” Ranger’s dad holds his face in both hands and lays out the rules, but does the pup listen? It is debatable.

Golden Retriever ignores dad’s serious talk before heading to grandma’s

The video from @goldenboyranger_ shows the Golden Retriever pup getting a very serious pep talk from his dad before a weekend at grandma’s house. Ranger, for his part, could not care less about the terms and conditions.

Ranger’s dad tells him, “I’m leaving for two days, 48 hours, you need to behave for your grandma,” trying to lock in some eye contact. But the adorable canine’s response is to close his eyes and pretend he cannot see or hear a thing.

The dad, undeterred, pulls Ranger’s face right up to his own and says, “Ranger, focus,” instructing, “Do not stress her out,” and “Be good, okay?” He adds, “Or else she’s not —,” and that is when Ranger grins. It is a full, open-mouthed smile that stops the lecture mid-sentence as the dad chuckles despite himself and tells the dog, “Stop smiling. She’s not gonna want you anymore if you’re bad.”

However, Ranger just keeps his happy expression on while his dad pauses, waiting for some sign of acknowledgement that never comes. All the dad gets out finally is a defeated “Ranger!”

The Instagram caption spells out the fur baby’s entire mindset for the weekend, reading, “No rules at grandmas,” — and Ranger meant it. His dad later replied to a comment on the video, revealing, “Oh he stole his grandma’s pizza within two hours,” which confirms that the briefing had zero impact on the Golden Retriever’s behavior.

Good for Ranger, at Grandma’s house, the rules do not come from Dad’s lecture.
