Who does your furry friend run to when they are scared? This adorable three-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, Lemon, chooses her mom when her own reflection scares her off. The little pup does not realize that the “intruder” in the glass is just her own reflection, and it is as sweet and hilarious as it gets in @goldenlifeoflemon’s video on Instagram.
In the clip, Lemon is standing, staring down her mirror image in the patio door. It is funny how she flinches once as she sees her reflection. However, the best part of the video is her split-second decision to run to her mom when things get a little too intense for her to handle.
Golden Retriever puppy gets scared of her own reflection, so she runs to mom for safety
As the Golden Retriever puppy stands there, her mom films her locking eyes with her reflection. Lemon looks a bit puzzled and completely panics as she realizes a mystery dog is matching her every move, prompting Lemon to spin around on her paws and scramble straight to her mom for protection.
The puppy had no idea that the mystery creature in the glass was her own face. But she probably thought that being with her mom would keep her safe. Understandably, young puppies do not understand how mirrors work, so Lemon’s reaction made sense.
Meanwhile, the Golden Retriever puppy’s mom celebrated the emotional moment in the video’s on-screen text. It read, “Ok but wdym she got scared of her own little reflection and ran to me for safety.” The puppy was scared, but fortunately, her mom was ready to step in. And so, the caption under the video promises, “Don’t worry smoosh, i’ll always be here to protect you.”
Lemon knows she is safe and sound with her owner. In fact, the way this puppy immediately sprints straight to her mom’s side when she gets spooked, knowing she will be safe there, is really telling of the trust and love they already share.
