Instagram is advocating for the adoption of a sweet shelter dog named Oreo, and she is winning hearts for all the right reasons. A Houston-based BARC shelter volunteer, @brisavespaws, shares a video of Oreo as a well-mannered and affectionate companion who already knows how to show up for her people.
However, the hard part is that she needs those people now. And so, the black-and-white Siberian mix tries to make her case by showing off her best manners and her talent for kisses.
Shelter Dog proves she’s ready for adoption with her charm, kisses and love for pets
The video’s on-screen text speaks on behalf of the shelter dog, as if she is posting her adoption story herself, beginning with, “Can you tell my new family I know how to sit?” Meanwhile, the video shows Oreo posing nicely and looking up with bright, hopeful eyes. As the dog comes close to her handler, giving her kisses and receiving pets, the on-screen text reads, “Can you also tell them I give kisses & I love to be pet?”
Then the sweet energy in the video turns to urgency. The last heartbreaking caption says, “Do you think my new family will save me from being euthanized tomorrow?” adding, “I promise I’m a good girl!”
In the caption, the BARC volunteer wrote that Oreo “is on the euthanasia list Friday 4/24 & needs a local Houston foster or adopter by 1pm tomorrow,” listing the shelter dog’s description and urging adoption. Moreover, the account explained that Oreo came in as an “euthanasia request” earlier this month and has waited for someone to notice her.
In the comments, people commented under the post for visibility and help. And an update from the volunteer said, “Oreo has rescue interest but they need a local Houston foster. Message me if you can help please!”
The shelter dog promises she is a “good girl,” but she does not need to. This video proves she could be the best companion one could have, and she needs someone kind interested in adoption to choose her in time.
