Rescue Dog Runs Into a New Neighborhood Cat That Looks Kinda Scary

Encounters between cats and dogs can be unpredictable, especially when neither is quite sure how to read the other. While some form easy friendships, others take a bit longer to warm up or avoid each other altogether. Much depends on personality, past experiences, and the situation they meet in. That uncertainty is exactly what plays out in a recent video showing a rescue dog navigating a not-so-friendly encounter with a cat.

Video shows rescue dog becoming a baby in dad’s arms after meeting ‘scary’ cat

A video by @cactustherescue follows Cactus, a rescue dog, during what appears to be a routine walk with his owner, Mike Brown. At the start of the clip, Brown is seen carrying Cactus in his arms while walking along a quiet road, as his girlfriend films and chats with them. She asks if a familiar neighborhood cat, referred to as “orange boy,” had scared Cactus again.

Brown responds that the orange cat was actually “super chill” this time, but mentions they had just encountered a different cat, one he calls the “black and white boy.” His tone suggests this second meeting didn’t go quite as smoothly, describing the new cat as “scary.”

The video then cuts to flashbacks of both encounters. In the first clip, Cactus approaches the orange cat while Brown gently reassures him and points out that the cat is calm and harmless. Despite the encouragement, Cactus appears unsure, keeping his distance and showing visible hesitation rather than curiosity.

That said, the second encounter tells a different story. As the black-and-white cat appears, its body language seems less relaxed. Brown acknowledges this, noting that the cat looks “kind of mad.” Almost instantly, Cactus backs away, clearly uncomfortable. Brown quickly reads the situation and decides not to push it, telling Cactus they should leave.

According to the caption, these walks are an important part of Cactus’ routine, but they come with their share of unpredictable moments. Brown explains that while the orange cat had mellowed out compared to previous sightings, the new cat brought a completely different energy. Recognizing the tension, they chose to avoid any escalation and move on.
