You don’t need the on-screen text to understand Humfrey’s problem — because it’s currently attached to his tail. The video shared by @christystinson77 opens in the living room, where Humfrey sits squarely on the floor, staring straight at his human with the weary patience of a giant dog who did not sign up for this. Behind him, a tiny puppy is happily gnawing away, completely unfazed by the size difference. The Newfoundland’s expression does all the talking. There’s confusion, there’s concern, and there’s a very polite request for intervention happening in his eyes.

As a dog built like a gentle sofa with legs, Humfrey looks especially offended that his calm routine has been interrupted by something this small and this loud. And with over 5,000 likes, it’s clear Humfrey’s very reasonable protest has found its audience.
The in-video text spells it out: “Humfrey is saying he did not ask for a puppy.” Honestly, his face backs that claim up. Every wrinkle and droopy feature works overtime as he lets out a few complaint barks, clearly hoping his human will step in. When that doesn’t happen, Humfrey decides to address the issue himself.
He slowly stands, turns around, and gives the puppy a look that should, in theory, shut things down. Instead, it does the opposite. The puppy takes it as encouragement and lunges back toward the tail, chewing and hopping away like it’s a game. Humfrey responds with a warning bark. The puppy fires one right back.
Then there is a brief but very loud exchange of growls and barks, mostly one-sided frustration versus fearless chaos. At one point, Humfrey just yawns — the kind of exhausted yawn that feels deeply personal — and looks back at his human as if to say, Are you seeing this?
His owner sums it up perfectly from behind the camera: “It’s hard being old with a puppy.” Judging by the comments — “He wants to speak to management” and “You handle him or I WILL!” — a lot of people recognize this dynamic.
