Video: Owner Makes Dog Work on a Farm To ‘Humble Him’

You know that look a city dog gives when real life hits? That’s Oatmeal’s whole mood in this reel. In a video shared by @adriaandoatmeal, we see Oatmeal being forced to trade influencer fame for farm chores. The caption? “I lied and told him he was going on a world tour.”

The next few minutes play out like a blooper reel — with the Golden Retriever trying (and failing) to look like he knows what he’s doing out there. His mom narrates every moment with the weary patience of someone who’s been through one too many Oatmeal incidents — and it’s all too relatable.

The popular video kicks off with Oatmeal’s mom announcing that his internet fame has “gone to his head,” so she’s putting him to work at her parents’ farm to bring him back down to earth. His first job? “Tending the garden,” which, in his world, translates to sniffing every plant and… contributing some fertilizer of his own. If you know what we mean. “Nowhere near the crops, though,” she clarifies, because apparently boundaries must exist.

Then comes a surprise visitor — Nuggie the farm cat, also known (as we later learn) by his “government name,” Chicken Nugget. You can almost see Nuggie’s tail doing the math — “Who invited this golden rookie to my turf? “So he immediately starts trying to scare the friendly, large dog away. But Oatmeal? Entirely unbothered. Maybe oblivious. Possibly both.

He even starts “pulling weeds” with his mouth, which looks impressively industrious until you realize he’s just having a snack. Viewers enjoyed the rivalry between the farm cat and the dog wearing “Oat-veralls” as one called them. They agreed that “Nuggie is farm security,” and so he’s gotta do what he has to. Meanwhile, others just wished they could “attain the level of non-chalant Oatmeal has.”

By the end, Nuggie’s still acting like a foreman, Oatmeal’s none the wiser, and the garden’s… miraculously intact. Did he learn anything? Doubtful. Did we have the best two minutes of our day? Absolutely.
