Video: Dogs Confused When Asked to Pass Through New Door

Most dogs like routine. And even the smartest pups can be stumped by something as ordinary as a new door in the house. That’s exactly what happens when Sage and Nikon, two cautious German Shorthaired Pointers, come across their newly installed storm door. In the video, their tails wag, and their ears perk up, but for some reason, Sage and Nikon just can’t bring themselves to go through the door.

The caption explains the situation perfectly: “Our storm door was all glass, so it shouldn’t be that different!” But as viewers quickly see, to Sage and Nikon, it’s an entirely new puzzle.

Dogs believe they can’t pass through new door

The video quickly went viral, with more than 23,000 likes as viewers chuckled at the trio of confused dogs. It starts with Sage and Nikon standing rigidly at the threshold. They’re convinced they can’t pass. Their human calls out, “Sage, come on,” but they barely budge.

Ivy, a more daring pup, saunters through the door like it’s nothing, only to have Sage and Nikon remain frozen, tail wags and curiosity warring with caution. It’s like they’re thinking, “If she can do it, maybe… but is it really safe?”

Eventually, Jade joins the scene, and suddenly, there are three dogs convinced that the door is an insurmountable obstacle. You can see the GSPs’ famous combination of intelligence, curiosity, and caution — they’re ready to explore, but their brains are double-checking every step.

Comments were just as entertaining as the video itself. One viewer wrote, “The braincell needs 3-5 business days advance notice of changes like this!” Another laughed, “Did Jade or Nikon ever walk into a glass door? GSP NEVER forget haha ? this was hilarious!” Further, a fan captured the collective relief perfectly: “The way I cheered when they finally all got in.”

With a mix of stubbornness, brains, and curiosity, Sage, Nikon, and Jade are impossible not to cheer for. By the end, seeing all three finally step through feels like a tiny yet significant victory.
