Video: Dog Mom Shows What Happens When She Tries To Get Golden Retriever Out of Water

Golden Retrievers are often hailed as the “ideal family dog.” They’re friendly, loyal, and generally eager to please. However, dog owners with the same breed will tell you that the pups also have a stubborn streak that pops up in the most unexpected moments. A recent video shows a Golden Retriever’s bedtime routine taking a hilarious detour poolside, where his enthusiasm for the water quickly overshadows his mom’s attempts to wrap up for the day.

Golden Retriever refuses to get out of water in funny video

Drake the Golden Retriever isn’t just any dog; he’s a social media star with more than a million followers on Instagram and another 1.5 million on TikTok. His playful antics and expressive personality have earned him a devoted audience, and his latest video is proving to be one of the funniest yet.

The clip begins with Drake soaking wet by the pool as his mom gently tells him it’s time for bed. Instead of listening, the Golden bolts, as he runs around the pool deck before leaping right back into the water. It’s his way of saying that swimming time isn’t over yet, at least not on his watch.

From there, the video shows a series of comical standoffs. At one point, Drake barks loudly at his mom in protest, behaving much like a stubborn toddler who doesn’t want to give up playtime.

In another moment, he drops his tennis balls into the pool, just so he has an excuse to dive back in. His parent tries to approach him slowly, reminding him not to jump. However, the pup can’t resist and plunges in anyway. As his owner notes in the caption, “Getting Drake to listen is a full-time job.”

Fans were quick to chime in with their own takes on the furbaby’s antics. One joked, “I don’t wanna go to bed momma,” perfectly summing up the defiance written all over his soggy face. Another added, “Drake is like ‘not today mom,’” as if the Golden Retriever had his own agenda and bedtime wasn’t on it.

Meanwhile, the most practical suggestion came from a viewer who said, “Just put a swim lounge in the pool for when he’s tired.” Because clearly, the only way to end pool time is to let Drake decide when he’s ready.
