Video: Labrador’s Interaction With a Wood Chip Draws Reactions

If you’ve ever tried to convince your dog to give up their “treasure,” you know it can turn into a battle of wills. It doesn’t matter if the object is a brand-new toy or a suspicious-looking scrap they found in the backyard. Once they’ve claimed it, it’s theirs. Now, a video of a chocolate Labrador’s fascination with a wood chip is proving to be one of the funniest dog moments on Instagram.

Instagram video shows Labrador holding on to a wood chip for the longest time

Moose Hakes, a chocolate Labrador, has developed a fascination with wood chips, and his owner recently shared just how serious the obsession has become. The Instagram video opens with a playful question written across the screen: “Does he eat the woodchips?” The answer quickly follows: “…no, he just does whatever this is with them.”

Moose doesn’t chew or shred the chip. Instead, he simply sits on the couch, holding it in his mouth like it’s the most valuable item in the world. His owner captions the video with a funny explanation, writing that Moose has discovered his own clever system of “bartering.” Rather than destroying the wood chips, he proudly carries them inside to trade for treats. “He’s learned how bartering works,” she notes. Judging by that determined look on his face, Moose might be ready to negotiate his way into a lifetime supply of snacks.

Reactions to Moose’s video were just as entertaining as the clip itself. People imagined whole scenarios around his wood chip obsession. “They’re his emotional support chips,” one user said, painting a picture of Moose clutching them during stressful moments. Another couldn’t resist a cheeky joke, saying, “Well, I guess it is a good source of fiber,” suggesting the pup might be ahead of the latest health craze. Someone else related all too well, writing, “My chocolate lab ‘steals’ my slippers and holds them like this.”

Perhaps the funniest reaction came from a user who wondered, “Does he get more treats depending on how big the wood chip is? Haha, bartering by weight and size.” The idea of Moose carefully sizing up chips before presenting them to his owner, like a furry little merchant, had the comment section in stitches.
