Every year, thousands of shelter dogs wait patiently for a second chance. While some are quickly adopted, others are quietly passed over again and again, despite having just as much love to give. It is not always about age or breed; sometimes, the most wonderful pups simply get lost in the crowd. One Florida shelter recently shared a video that captured this heartbreaking reality through the eyes of a dog named Katerina.
Shelter’s most ‘overlooked’ dog tries to get people’s attention in crushing video
The Humane Society of Broward County posted a video of one of their long-term residents named Katerina. The video opens with a slow shot of the pup in her kennel, while the on-screen text reads, “Our most overlooked dog.”
Katerina stands quietly, eyes full of hope, watching people pass by without stopping. Her demeanor is calm and sweet, as if silently asking for someone to give her a chance. At one point in the clip, a shelter volunteer enters her kennel, and Katerina’s face lights up. She gently licks the volunteer, showing how affectionate and loving she really is.
In the video’s caption, the shelter wrote, “It’s so heartbreaking to see one of our shelter pets getting overlooked… Especially when they have such a beautiful and loving soul.” They explained that the four-year-old Pit Bull is a favorite among staff. They described Katerina as an “affectionate,” playful girl who loves going for walks, giving kisses, and cuddling.
Despite her gentle nature and friendliness with other dogs, she had been overlooked every time. Adding to her challenges, Katerina is currently being treated for heartworm disease. The shelter also made it clear her treatment would be fully covered after adoption.
Four days after the video’s upload, one commenter shared that they had contacted the shelter directly and learned that Katerina was adopted on April 28. Though the shelter has not posted an official update yet, the news was a relief to many viewers who had been emotionally invested in her story.
