Mark Wahlberg’s Dogs: Ages, Breeds & More

Want to know more about Mark Wahlberg’s dogs? The popular actor not only stars in movie with canine co-stars, like “Arthur the King,” but Marky Marky owns an adorable pack of dogs too. Wahlberg got his first family dog in 2019, surprising his wife, Rhea Durham, and children with the pup, and the number of dogs they own has only swelled since then. Here’s what we know about Mark Wahlberg’s many furry best friends, including their ages and breeds.

How old are Mark Wahlberg’s dogs?

Mark Wahlberg owns five dogs and they are all fairly young, as of March 11, 2025. Here’s how old each of his canines are, with a few estimations on their ages.

  • Champ – 6 Years Old
    • Champ is Wahlberg’s first dog. The pup is the most famous of his pack and has its own Instagram called @champerian. In an interview with him on Ellen, Rhea was initially mad that her husband didn’t consult her on him getting a dog, but she melted when she saw the pup’s little face. Champ’s one-year birthday, via Facebook, was around January 17, 2020, which means that it was born in late January 2019.
  • Jojo – 5 Years Old
    • One of the first posts for Jojo was made on November 14, 2020 on the dog’s Instagram. The pup looks fairly young in the photo, not even as large as a monkey stuffed animal, so it was likely around one or two months old at the time.
  • Penny – 2 Years Old
    • One of the latest additions to the Wahlberg household is Penny, who became of the pack on July 18, 2023 and celebrated its first birthday on February 15, 2024. A Facebook post saw the dog wear a cute crown with a “1” on it. If that’s correct, Penny looks to be two years old at the time of writing.
  • Lola – 2 Years Old
    • On Facebook, Wahlberg took one of the earliest photos of Lola on September 30, 2022. She looks quite young in the picture as well and seems like it was adopted a bit before Penny was.
  • Nugget – Less Than 1 Year Old
    • The most recent dog, Nugget, was revealed on Facebook on August 22, 2024. It’s unclear how old he is in the picture, but Wahlberg clearly says that “for anyone keeping track, this is dog number FIVE.”

What are the breeds of Mark Wahlberg’s dogs?

The following are the breeds for all of Mark Wahlberg’s dogs. There are specifically three dog breeds that he and his family are particularly fond of (so far at least).

  • Champ – Pomeranian
    • Tan and white coat
  • Jojo – Pomsky
    • Gray and white Pomeranian & Husky mix
  • Penny – Pomsky
    • Solid white coat
  • Lola – Boston Terrier
    • Black and white coat
  • Nugget – Boston Terrier
    • Brown and white coat

It’s notable that the actor has five dogs in all, since he revealed during a piece in PEOPLE that he’s actually “allergic to dogs” and needs to take medication for it on a daily basis. Wahlberg admitted during the interview that he was “covered in dog hair.”

Depending on the day, the various members of the Wahlberg household care for the pack of dogs, be it his wife or his four children, Ella Rae, Michael, Brendan, and Grace. That said, he shares that the person who has most of the control over the dogs is his youngest daughter, Grace, saying that she’s “good with animals” and is “the authority figure in the house.”

Wahlberg’s love of dogs grew enough that he decided to star in the 2024 movie “Arthur the King,” where he starred alongside an Australian shepherd-Border collie-Bouvier mix named Ukai. The actor became fast friends with his furry castmate through a little “bribery.” He would whistle to Ukai when it was let out of the house and then feed her “a couple steaks and a couple of pieces of chicken” by the time her trainer got to his door.
