What Happened to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Dog Hobbs?

Fans want to know more about Dwayne Johnson’s dog Hobbs, who sadly passed away in late February 2025. The Rock shared a heartfelt eulogy for his French bulldog Hobbs, named after the character from The Fast and Furious franchise, on Instagram, saying that he is “numb over this loss.” Here’s what we know about the sad passing of The Rock’s pup.

How did Dwayne Johnson’s dog Hobbs pass away?

Dwayne Johnson’s dog Hobbs passed away “quietly and bravely in the night” on February 25, 2025. He said that he was “grateful he didn’t suffer long.”

The Rock hopes that Hobbs’ spirit will “come back and visit every once in a while, so [they] can get in trouble and laugh again.”

Johnson originally adopted Hobbs, along with another Frenchie named Brutus, over Labor Day weekend back in September 2015. He shared the news of the adoption on Instagram with a photo of him holding both pups, one in each arm, while standing in a pool. While Hobbs was able to doggy-paddle when introduced to the water, Brutus couldn’t and began sinking, causing the action star to dive into the water to rescue him.

Sadly, Brutus passed away in 2015 from consuming a poisonous mushroom.

Fans of The Fast and Furious franchise will know Hobbs as the dog in the movie Hobbs & Shaw, a role that Dwayne Johnson (as the producer) cast himself. In a humorous post on Facebook in 2019, he said that his dog was “the biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen.” In the video he shared that Hobbs “was disciplined, unlike his owner; he was professional, unlike his owner; and he listened to the director, unlike his owner.”

Both Johnson and Hobbs appeared on the cover of GQ Magazine, with the pup receiving plenty of pets during the photo shoot.

Hobbs was 10 years old when he passed away. The average lifespan of a French bulldog is 10 to 12 years.
