Over 30 Abandoned Dogs in L.A. County in Danger of Being Euthanized

A dog grooming and boarding facility in Rowland Heights, Los Ángeles, is appealing to interested community members to help foster or adopt the dozens of abandoned dogs, or else the animals face euthanization.

Shanderin Kennels says that about two years ago, an animal rescue organization brought 31 rescued dogs to their facility for temporary housing. Unfortunately, the rescue never came back for the canines.

31 dogs abandoned by a local rescue group may be euthanized

KTLA 5News reports that the non-profit rescue called Woofy Acres took the 31 dogs to Shanderin Kennels after the mass rescue but never returned to pick them up.

Samantha Redline — a veterinary technician with Shanderin Kennels — spoke to the news outlet about the difficult situation they’re currently in.

“We don’t understand how anyone would think this is OK,” Redline shared. “We heard that she did this to two other facilities.”

According to Redline, their facility has so far spent roughly $40,000 on caring for the abandoned animals. The canines consume about 40 pounds of dog food every day. This, she said, is taking a financial toll on their facility.

They’ve tried multiple times to reach out to Woofy Acres, but the rescue never responded. Furthermore, Redline stated they’ve tried to find the abandoned dogs places at local shelters, but haven’t succeeded since the shelters are already at full capacity.

If the facility doesn’t find fosters or adopters for the animals soon, they’ll transfer them over to the L.A. County shelter for euthanization. Redline expressed disappointment over the possibility of the abandoned dogs being euthanized.

“It’s heartbreaking, especially looking at the way they were in the beginning,” she shared. “Now that we built so many relationships with all of them, thinking about the shelter, we can’t do it.”

Redline’s only desire is that the dogs — whom they describe as “well-trained, friendly, and affectionate” — find loving forever homes.

“Please, if you can foster or adopt any of these animals, it [will] save lives.”
