A dog shot multiple times in Philadelphia and left for dead was found by a Good Samaritan on Monday (per Fox News). The shooting took place in the Kingsessing neighborhood, and an officer from the city’s Animal Care & Control Team arrived at the scene believing the dog had been hit by a car. However, once the dog was taken to a local hospital, caregivers realized that she had been shot multiple times.

Authorities theorized the dog was shot in the street and crawled to the front porch of a nearby residence. The dog, now named Alexia, is currently receiving life-saving care under the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). She remains in critical condition due to injuries to her and requires surgery to amputate her front leg.

The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Facebook page gave an update, saying: “After being shot in the street last night, Alexia literally dragged herself up the steps of a Good Samaritan’s home.” As of Wednesday night, Alexia is still fighting for her life and received a blood transfusion. “Unfortunately, Alexia has not been doing well. She needs good vibes,” the Pennsylvania SPCA said. “We are hoping she will stabilize and can come back here.”

The shooting is being investigated

The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement division is currently investigating the shooting. “We are taking this case very seriously and will do everything we can to bring justice for Alexia,” said Nicole Wilson, Director of Humane Law Enforcement at the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Animal cruelty is a serious offense, and it is important that people report any suspected cases to the authorities. “If you see something, say something. Your call could make all the difference for an animal in need,” said Wilson.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is hoping that Alexia will recover from her injuries and receive a second chance at life. “Despite the pain and trauma she’s endured, Alexia has shown us nothing but love and gratitude,” the organization said. “We will continue to provide her with the best medical care possible.” They added, “we are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.” As Alexia continues to fight for her life, the organization urges the public to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty.
