Singer Chris Brown selling Pit Bull puppies online
Wednesday April 25th, 2012
R&B singer Chris Brown, no stranger to controversy, has decided to make his latest controversy even stranger.
Some celebrities make their money endorsing cosmetics; others sell their clothing lines or ghostwritten memoirs. But Chris Brown sells Pit Bull Terrier puppies.
For a mere $1,000, Brown fans can apparently purchase one of eight adorable “performance pedigree” Pit Bull pups. The four females (named Princess, Precious, Pretty, and Beauty) are pictured alongside their four brothers (Fortune, Music, Jett, and Freedom) on the site.
Brown’s rep, Maureen O’Connor, confirmed Tuesday that the 2-month-old puppies were born to dogs that Brown keeps at his home in Virginia. Though O’Connor told the press that Chris Brown is selling the pups to make sure that they get a good home, critics are expressing their doubts because of the method of selling the Pit Bulls.
Interested buyers can even purchase a puppy directly from the website using a PayPal link at the bottom of the page. A small note reads, “Dogs can be delivered depending on the buyers’ location.”
Brown’s Internet breeding business is not an unusual one. Many unscrupulous and unregulated backyard breeders have taken to the World Wide Web to advertise and sell puppies for top dollar. Online classified websites like Craigslist, Ebay, and until recently, the Facebook Marketplace, are popular targets for irresponsible dog breeders.
Critics are also up in arms that Brown has chosen the Pit Bull as his breeding dog of choice. Many feel that he is being careless in breeding a dog that is more likely than any breed to be euthanized in a shelter.
