How to shop for a dog

Dog food, collars, and leashes — that's the easy stuff. Ever had to shop for pet steps to help your little and/or elderly dog reach you on the couch? Or a water bowl that refills itself? Or how about a jacket that'll warm up shivering dogs in the coldest clime?

Here at DogTime we're constantly sorting through new products so we can let you know what's worth considering for your own pooch. As we nose around for the stuff that works, we'd appreciate you letting us know about your own finds. Add your two cents in the "comments" area of the reviews.

Carol Garrett

Centinella Feed and Supply sold us a "Jax and Bones " lrg sleeper for our Goldens at a price of over $200.00 saying it was the most "sturdy" bed they carried. Within 2 days one of our girls found a corner to rip and pulled half the stuffing out. Neither company stood behind it and we recommend buying less expensive beds (we have 2 others ) that will way outlast the "luxury ones..Do not assume that either of these companies will stand behind their products!

  • Pro-Stop harness WARNING

has anyone else had a problem w/this product? my dog developed a swollen joint right where the leg straps are positioned and developed a bursitis in the joint as a result. i would caution against using this product when i contacted the Company..they told me the leg straps can be moved- but they show only the one position on their box & insert and gave no other indications or warnings :(

  • My puppy accidentally ate chicken bones...

I have an 11 week old Siberian Husky and she just got into a plate of chicken buffalo wings. She ate four of them including the bone. I know they're not supposed to eat bones so is she going to be ok? Should I be worried. She's acting normal, in fact, she was more upset when she was disciplined than anything else. Please advise; if I need to take her to the vet I will definitely do so! Thanks so much in advance!

  • PANCREATITIS IN DOGS

MY BEAUTIFUL 10 LB. 3 YEAR OLD SHIHTZU (PIPPI)HAD PANCREATITIS A FEW WEEKS AGO. SHE SPENT NEARLY 3 DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL. I WAS BESIDE MYSELF. THE VET DIDN'T KNOW HOW SHE GOT IT. PANCREATITIS CAN BE DEADLY. FROM ALL MY RESEARCH, THERE WAS ONE COMMON THREAD: IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN MIDDLE AGE AND FROM A HIGH FAT DIET WHICH BASICALLY MEANS TABLE SCRAPS. PIPPI HAS NEVER HAD TABLE SCRAPS. I ALSO FEED HER"HEALTH WISE" WHICH HAS NO PRESERVATIVES. HAS ANY ONE ELSE HAD A DOG YOUNGER THAN MIDDLE-AGE WHO HAS HAD PANCREATITIS? I AM STILL SO SCARED THAT I WATCH HER ALL THE TIME. LUCKILY I HAD PET INSURANCE SO MONEY WAS NOT A PROBLEM. (NOT THAT I WOULD EVER LET MONEY GET IN THE WAY.

  • Mini Schnauzer's changing coat

My 8 month old salt and pepper mini schnauzer has developed patches of lighter (and some brown) hair on her back. Any ideas on why this is happening? Love her regardless of what her coat looks like but I'm curious. Thanks
