Bostons are a fairly new breed, and were created from such breeds as the bull terrier, which has a very long nose! It's a recessive gene that is a fault according to the standard, so most breeders have 'bred it out'. There are breeders however that will breed dogs that have less than desirable traits (a longer snout in the case of a Boston) to like individuals without regard for the standard, thereby reinforcing the recessive (and undesirable according to the standard) genes. These dogs are still 'full-blooded', but just bred without consideration of the standard (usually for the money involved rather than trying to achieve the standard). Luckily these dogs with longer noses and tales, odd colors (red, chocolate, mostly white..etc) and long rather than squat bodies still exhibit the same sweet, soulful personality, which makes the Boston Terrier the best breed around in my opinion!” — bostonsandbo..., Aug 19 2009
