Not too far from Miami, Florida, there is an epidemic of abandoned dogs. The rural area has become a dumping ground where people go to leave unwanted pups to fend for themselves. One of those dogs was Princess Sophia. Afraid, alone, and pregnant with a litter of puppies, she hid herself beneath a house in the area to protect her newborns. The world can be a dangerous place for a mama dog and her pups, but luckily this dog family had people willing to go above and beyond to care for them.
Redland Rock Pit Abandoned Dog Project is a non-profit group dedicated to bringing awareness to the homeless dog epidemic in Florida’s dumping grounds, and they’re out to save as many dogs as they can. While they were out providing food for several of the homeless dogs in the area, they heard the whimpering of puppies coming from under the house where Princess Sophia was hiding.
It was tough to earn the mama dog’s trust and keep her under control while the two-day-old puppies were brought to safety, but eventually the rescuers were able to get all the little ones, an amazing 14 in total, captured along with Princess Sophia. Then they were on their way to the shelter.
All of the dogs were thoroughly cleaned of their flea infestations, and the mama dog was placed in a quiet room while her pups were brought back to her. As they were placed next to her in her crate, she began to trust the humans that saved her and her babies. Once the puppies are old enough, they’ll be adopted out and find loving forever homes that will never abandon them and leave them on their own.
