Homeless Dog And Owner Rescued From Chest-Deep Flood Waters

Edward Emmerich doesn’t have much in this world other than the love of his Belgian Malinois named Duke. So when the homeless pair who had been living in an encampment found themselves trapped in chest-deep flood waters, Emmerich put Duke on his shoulders to keep him safe. He swam about 1,500 feet to reach his rescuers.

The workers were able to find Emmerich using pings from his cell phone after he called 911. A ladder truck lowered a firefighter into the waters to hoist Emmerich and Duke from the flood. Once they were on land, Duke showed his appreciation by showering his rescuer with some slobbery doggy kisses.

Emmerich couldn’t return to his encampment, but he works in construction and one of his clients is allowing him to stay with Duke in a home he is working on temporarily. Hopefully these two will find better times, but they’re very happy to still have each other safe and sound.
