Shelter pup asks First Dog Bo Obama to special event

Ramona the Goldendoodle has got one serious canine crush, and the fluffy white pooch sure doesn’t aim low with her affections.

It’s puppy love for Ramona, and she only has eyes for the First Dog of the Unites States, Portuguese Water Dog Bo Obama. She has taken to the web with a very special YouTube message for the nation’s most eligible four-legged bachelor.

In the video, Ramona is shown worrying — with the help of thought bubbles, of course — about arriving dateless to the Oregon Humane Society’s Doggie Dash this May. Her heart tells her she must try and ask out her dream date, Bo Obama, even imagining with longing becoming “Mrs. Ramona Obama, First Dog-Lady.”

Determined to let Bo know how she feels, Ramona first takes to Twitter and Facebook, but to no avail. A phone call to the White House reveals that, much to Ramona’s dismay, the First Dog doesn’t have a cell phone. So finally, to the tune of “Please Mr. Postman” by the Marvelettes, the Goldendoodle decides to send Bo a love letter to ask him to the Doggie Dash.

Ramona’s adorable video is part of a special campaign for the Oregon Humane Society’s 26th Annual Doggie Dash, which will take place May 11 in beautiful Portland, Oregon. The organization is hoping to raise $450,000 at this wonderful event.

But to do that, they are hoping for a little help from Bo. At the end of Ramona’s video, OHS officially invites the FDOTUS to serve as the event’s “Grand Dog Marshal…and Marry Ramona, if you like!”

OHS spokesperson David Lytle tells ABC News the nonprofit would be thrilled to get Bo involved in their cause in order to “highlight shelter pets and raise their profile.”

“It’s not just a stunt,” Lytle says of the YouTube video, which has taken the web by storm since its release. “It would be a big book to shelter pets.

“[Bo] was not adopted from a shelter and the Obamas made a lot of statements [that] they wanted a shelter pet and then they got Bo as a gift, kind of out of the blue, so this is their opportunity to come out and show their support for animals that are less well off and that need a lot of loving TLC that they just don’t get.”

Lytle reveals that the Oregon Humane Society has even gotten in touch with Oregon Congressional delegations to ensure their invitation gets into the right hands — or paws.

While OHS has yet to hear back from Bo or his family, they are crossing their fingers.

“What could be more enticing than a wonderful pitch from a fluffy white Goldendoodle,” Lytle says.

If you would like to help the Oregon Humane Society encourage the First Dog to help spread the message about shelter pets by attending the Doggie Dash, please sign the OHS Change.org petition. If you will be in the Portland area on May 11 and would like to take part in the event yourself, consider signing up as an individual, forming a team, or even joining an existing team.
