On April 7, 2011, DogTime.com reported on Patrick, a Pit Bull who was starved by his owner, and then thrown into a garbage bin of a high-rise apartment building in Newark, N.J. Fortunately, the dog was rescued by a maintenance worker before he was crushed by a trash compactor.
The dog was named Patrick, as he was found on the day before St. Patrick’s Day March 26, 2011. The dog was skin and bones, and weighed 19 pounds. He was cared for by the Newark Humane Society and Garden State Veterinary Specialists.
What a difference a year or love, care, and compassion makes. He now weighs approximately 50 pounds and it’s hard to believe this is the same dog who was on the brink of death over a year ago.
New pictures of the once abused dog have been posted on The Patrick Miracle Facebook page, and the dog has shown dramatic improvement:
Kisha Curtis, Patrick’s former owner, has been charged with abandonment and neglect. If found guilty, she could serve a maximum of 18 months in jail and be fined $10,000. Curtis has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
