Dog Is Surrendered to Be Put Down — Then His Foster Family Sees Who He Really Is

It is easy to wonder what kind of dog you are bringing home when you know nothing about their past. Amanda Posa had those questions when she agreed to rescue Cliff, who had been surrendered to be euthanized and was given only 24 hours to find help. Yet once he arrived at her home, Cliff proved that he was not the “wild card” she had feared.

Amanda Posa was not initially planning to adopt another dog when she heard that Cliff urgently needed help. The dog had been surrendered to a shelter to be euthanized. According to a video Posa shared on Instagram, he was given just 24 hours to find someone willing to rescue him.

A veterinarian at the shelter put out an urgent plea, prompting Posa to make the drive to pick Cliff up. She knew very little about him and went into the situation unsure of what she would find. In the video, she recalls wondering whether Cliff would pull her over during their walk or potentially destroy things once he arrived at her house.

But Cliff quickly showed her that he was not the dog she had been worrying about. After arriving at his foster home, Cliff appeared to settle in remarkably well. Footage shows him playing, relaxing, and spending time with Posa and her family. He seemed comfortable enough to stretch out and rest, gradually treating the house as though it had always been his. What had initially seemed like a risky rescue quickly became something much more meaningful.

Posa has fostered numerous dogs before. They included energetic puppies, dogs recovering from serious injuries, and anxious dogs that required extra patience. She explained that she would have kept many of them if she had the space and resources to live on her “dream farm.” This time, however, something about Cliff was different.

For Posa, even finding Cliff’s brown fur on her clothes has become something she feels grateful for. The dog who once had only hours to find a home is now surrounded by people who chose to keep him. The video closes with Posa cuddling Cliff as the words “Welcome home, Cliff” appear on screen.
