Toddler Lets Neighbors’ Dog Into the House, Leaves Mom To Find the Sweetest Surprise

Some house rules apparently don’t apply when you’re two years old. In a video shared by @ivyonnacorinne, one determined toddler lets the neighbors’ dog inside, settles in for a cuddle with him on the couch, and acts like the whole thing is perfectly normal. By the time his mom catches on, the neighbors’ dog has already made himself at home. The whole exchange feels wonderfully matter-of-fact, proving that little kids have a way of solving life’s biggest questions with complete certainty.

The video opens with the little boy, Langston, opening the front door and letting the neighbors’ black Labrador mix, Drake, inside. Before closing the door again, he makes sure none of the family’s foster dogs slip outside. Mom, who is filming, is aghast by this whole operation. Then we see that Drake has already jumped onto the couch as if he has done this several times in the past.

The toddler walks in and wraps an arm around him while standing beside the couch, looking perfectly pleased with himself. “What are you doing?” Mom asks. Then she pauses halfway through another sentence as the situation starts making sense. When she asks whose dog Drake is, the little boy confidently replies, “Our dog.”

She gently reminds him, “That’s the neighbor’s dog.” But Langston isn’t convinced. When his mom explains that the neighbors do, in fact, like their dog, he simply insists otherwise. According to his very serious logic, if they didn’t want Drake, then naturally he should live here instead. It’s the kind of conversation only a toddler could have with a completely straight face. One of the family’s foster dogs even wanders over to greet Drake with a friendly lick, making it look like everyone else has already accepted the newest “family member.”

Plenty of viewers were convinced this wasn’t Drake’s first surprise visit. One joked, “The way the dog jumped on the couch. That wasn’t the first time the kid took the neighbor’s dog.” Another laughed, “That’s his dog now.”  Thankfully, Drake still belongs to the neighbors. But judging by how welcome he seems to feel, it’s safe to say he will always have friends waiting just across the yard.
