Senior Dog Slowly Loses Hope in a Quiet Shelter Corner When All He Wants Is To Be Understood

A touching Instagram video shared by an Indianapolis shelter volunteer has put the spotlight on the gentle senior dog, Lucious, reminding animal lovers that older dogs with medical needs still have so much love left to give. After spending more than three months at the shelter, Lucious continues to wait for someone willing to look beyond his age and health challenges.

Senior shelter dog’s sad eyes tell a lot about his desire to finally have a family

The 10-year-old senior quietly curls up on a soft blanket, watching people pass by as another day slips away without a family of his own. The clip begins with text reading, “POV: You’re 10 years old, good with dogs & kids and still end up in the shelter.” The camera then shows Lucious lying quietly in his kennel on a blanket, patiently watching his surroundings. Another message follows: “Lucious has been waiting 90+ days. Meet him at IACS today.”

According to the video’s caption, Lucious is currently available for adoption at Indianapolis Animal Care Services, located at 5001 E. Raymond Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. The shelter describes Lucious as an older gentleman who quietly manages several chronic medical conditions while navigating the world. Despite his discomfort, he enjoys treats, loves spending time outdoors, rides well in the car, and reportedly lived peacefully with both children and small dogs before entering the shelter.

The video touched viewers, many of whom encouraged others to consider adopting senior dogs. One user wrote, “Senior dogs are so overlooked. They make the sweetest companions. Loving a senior dog will change your life and save theirs.” Another commented, “One of my favorite boys! Very sweet guy. He’s so sad in his kennel. He needs to be cuddling on a couch.” A third viewer added, “Senior dogs are the best! Please open your heart and your home to this amazing boy! You won’t regret saving his life! He will be your new best friend, and we could all use one of those! Please help if you can! ADOPT don’t shop! Spread the love.” Another wrote, “Awww poor baby.”
