Shelter’s Longest Resident Dog Hoping To Get Adopted Is a Certified ‘Social Butterfly’

Fiona’s search for a forever family is moving viewers after the Humane Society of Broward County shared her story on Instagram. The Shelter dog, a two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, hoped to leave the Fort Lauderdale shelter during the holiday weekend. Instead, no adopter came for her. The rescue pup looked sad behind the glass, so volunteers treated her to a special day out and helped her show off her joyful side.

Shelter’s longest resident dog up for adoption loves meeting new people

Fiona is one of the shelter’s longtime residents, according to the post. She came from another shelter while looking for the loving home she deserves. The Humane Society of Broward County said she has spent plenty of time with staff and volunteers, who know her as a people-loving “social butterfly.”

The reel begins with Fiona looking quiet and sad inside her kennel area. On-screen text says she did not get adopted. Another line asks if someone will give her a chance. Her eyes make the moment feel even heavier, especially because the post says she had hoped for a freedom ride. Then the video changes tone. Volunteers take Fiona out of the shelter, and her personality starts to shine. She runs on the grass, chases tennis balls, and enjoys time near a kiddie pool. In the car, she wears an “adopt me” bandana and rides like a happy little co-pilot.

The caption says Fiona loves meeting new friends, getting petted, and soaking up attention. She also enjoys adventures, snacks, shopping trips, and active time outside. Like many young dogs, she is still working on manners and needs training, consistency, and patience in her new home.

The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter opens daily at 11 a.m. and asks interested adopters to complete a pre-adoption application. Viewers quickly started rooting for Fiona. One person wrote, “make this post viral.” Another called her “a sweetheart.” A third added, “She is a beaut.”
