An eight-year-old shelter dog named Cathy is running out of time after landing on an euthanasia list through no fault of her own. Once a beloved family pet, the gentle senior now spends her days behind kennel bars. She is eagerly waiting for someone willing to give her a second chance. A volunteer who met Cathy in person shared her story on social media, hoping the affectionate dog will find a foster, an adopter, or a rescuer before it’s too late.
Surrendered shelter dog facing euthanasia desperately needs a new home
The heartbreaking video opens with the words, “I’m also just a girl on the euthanasia list,” as Cathy looks up hopefully from inside her kennel. Another clip shows her standing quietly behind the kennel door while the text reads, “standing in front of you.” It’s followed by, “asking you to foster or adopt me.”
According to the post, Cathy, shelter ID #A2079622, is an eight-year-old spayed female who tested negative for heartworms. Her previous owner surrendered her because they could no longer afford to care for her. The volunteer who shared the post said it was heartbreaking to see Cathy in the shelter because she clearly came from a loving home. She arrived healthy and appeared to have been well cared for. The volunteer said they do not know the exact financial reasons behind Cathy’s surrender, but they believe she was deeply loved before she lost her home.
Despite the sudden change in her life, Cathy continues to greet people with enthusiasm. The volunteer described her as an easygoing dog. According to the volunteer, Cathy wags her tail “SOOOO HARD” whenever anyone gives her even a little attention. She reportedly walks beautifully on a leash, making outings calm and enjoyable.
The post further describes Cathy as an uncomplicated companion who would fit comfortably into many homes. It adds that she could easily become “someone’s greatest companion.” Cathy is currently housed at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas.
Cathy’s story in this shelter dog video resonated with animal lovers, many of whom flooded the comments with encouragement and offers of support. One viewer wrote, “Omg beautiful girl. Pledge $20!” Another commented, “Really hope you get to be just a girl in a loving forever home, sweet Cathy.” A third person added, “She is the sweetest.”
