Human Meets Shelter Dog Running Out of Time, Left Behind by Only Family She Ever Knew

A Mastiff mix named Elsie had a loving home and a family until a cruel twist of fate changed her life forever. A volunteer, Brianna, shared her heartbreaking story on her Instagram page @brisavespaws, urging immediate attention. The shelter dog was surrendered by the only family she ever knew, left behind to make sense of what could be a scary and lonely experience. The canine is running out of time, and she is currently prioritized on the euthanasia list dated July 1. The video pleaded for a Houston foster or a potential adopter to save Elsie’s life by 1 pm on the aforementioned date.

Shelter dog facing final days and in need of rescue was abandoned by family in a ‘scary’ place

Stories about a loving pet-turned-shelter dog are never easy to hear. However, this premise itself calls for someone to step up and change the narrative. Elsie, a Mastiff mix, suffered a similar fate after her family abandoned her for good. The shelter dog trusted humans to take care of her, but was eventually left behind. Furthermore, she has already suffered more than she can handle.

The volunteer who shared Elsie’s story on Instagram made a heartbreaking revelation. The shelter dog initially had her sister Emmy to “make her feel safe.” Speaking about their reunion, Brianna recalled, “The way they lit up when they saw each other, running along the fence line, rolling in the grass, giving kisses. It showed me, in the simplest way, how dogs never forget the ones they love.” However, their sweet moment didn’t last long. Since no one rescued Emmy, she was euthanized.

However, Brianna didn’t want Elsie to share the same fate. Sharing the story in an Instagram video, she put out an urgent request for a foster or adopter to save the dog. The volunteer described the canine as “incredibly gentle” and “nurturing.” Elsie also loves what every dog does: some affection and treats. The shelter dog, who is scheduled for euthanasia soon, desperately needs a loving home to call forever.

Interested foster parents can message the volunteer on Instagram. They can also email BARC Animal Shelter Houston with the details given in the video’s caption.
