For many people, the best part of the morning is a cup of coffee. For one pup, it’s apparently a tennis ball, or three. While most dogs enjoy a good game of fetch, few can count on having fresh tennis balls delivered to them as part of their daily schedule. That unusual arrangement is at display in a video showing a Golden Retriever named Charlie making his regular stop at a neighborhood tennis court.

Lauren, who documents life with her Golden Retriever Charlie on Instagram under the handle @laurencodyandcharlie, posted a video from one of their regular morning walks. The video begins with Charlie waiting expectantly outside a fenced tennis court, his attention fixed on the people working inside.
According to the onscreen text, the routine takes place every morning at around 6 a.m. As workers clear the tennis court near Lauren’s home, they toss tennis balls over the fence for Charlie to collect. The Golden Retriever appears to know exactly what is about to happen and waits patiently for the first ball to arrive.
Soon enough, tennis balls begin flying over the fence one by one. Charlie wastes no time racing after them, eagerly retrieving each ball as it lands. The clip shows him darting back and forth as he gathers his morning treasures.
Lauren explained in the video that the tradition has grown beyond just her dog. “Somehow it’s become everyones favorite part of the day,” she wrote, suggesting that the workers enjoy the interaction just as much as Charlie does.
The bond between the dog and the court staff appears to have become a cherished part of the neighborhood’s morning routine. In the post’s caption, Lauren added, “Charlie wakes up and runs to this tennis court every morning! The people who work there are always so excited It is so sweet.”
