You might assume that living together is enough for two dogs to become friends, but that is not always the case. Just like people, they can take different amounts of time to grow comfortable with one another. A recent video shared by Instagram user @two_cuddly_dachshunds captured one of those long-awaited breakthroughs. After more than a year of sharing a home, a Dachshund puppy appears to have finally won over the family’s senior dog.
Dachshund puppy earns senior dog’s love after over a year
For much of the past year and a half, George has been trying to build a relationship with Baxter, the family’s 12-year-old Dachshund. While George arrived full of energy and enthusiasm, Baxter seemed far less convinced about having a younger companion around.
According to the owner, there were times when it felt uncertain whether the two dogs would ever become close. Baxter, already well into his senior years, appeared content with his established routine. George, meanwhile, remained determined to befriend his older housemate despite receiving a less-than-enthusiastic response at times. The latest video suggests that patience may finally be paying off.
In the clip, the two Dachshunds are seen lounging together on a couch, a sight that alone marks a significant change from their earlier days. What’s more, they are snuggled closely together as their faces rest near one another. The moment becomes even sweeter when George appears to place his paw on Baxter while they cuddle.
The owner highlighted the interaction with on-screen text that reads, “We caught George petting Baxter.” While it is impossible to know exactly what George intended, the gesture struck viewers as an affectionate display between the pair.
In sharing the video, the owner reflected on how long the journey had taken. “We think George is finally starting to win over Baxter… it’s only taken a year and a half! Thankfully George is very sweet and persistent,” the caption read.
Many users found the interaction both funny and touching, especially given Baxter’s reputation as the harder dog to impress. “Omg this is incredibly sweet. Even with the side eye from Baxter,” one person joked. They suggested that the senior dog may still be holding onto a bit of his old skepticism.
Others admitted the clip left them emotional. “Stop this right now!!!! I’m in a glass case of emotion!” one viewer wrote. Another commented, “That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen.”
