Mama shelter dog isn’t ‘mean,’ she’s just scared and wants to protect her babies
Whitney, a foster dog enthusiast, recently visited a mama shelter dog named Bonnie, aka BonBon. However, she was unaware of how things might turn out. Whitney went to the “shelter looking for a foster and ended up picking the ‘meanest’ mom and went for it.” When she arrived, Bonnie was “growling and barking at humans passing by.” However, slowly things changed with “time and patience,” and she no longer feared Whitney’s presence.
When the dog developed trust with the human, she let Whitney near her seven babies and even let the human help her with the puppies. After a while, Bonnie went home with Whitney, along with her kids, much to her joy. Talking about the shelter dog’s behaviour, the foster mom revealed in the caption that she “wasn’t mean – she was just understandably scared and protective” of her babies in the shelter.
Looking at how well Whitney handled the scared new mom, netizens applauded her efforts. They also loved Bonnie. “You’re an angel! That mama and her babies will thrive now because of you!” expressed a follower. Another person said, “Mommy is beautiful & the babies are adorable. I hope everybody gets adopted – including mama.” A third mentioned, “You’re so good with baby mama drama!” Meanwhile, an individual commented, “What a sweet face ! thank you for giving her and her babies a chance.”
Whitney later shared an update on her page, saying that Bonnie is “doing a great job adjusting to a totally new place” while being “totally dedicated to her babies.” The parent even revealed that the dog “hasn’t been defensive or upset since coming here, which means that she just felt insecure (honestly, valid) in a scary shelter setting.” Bonnie is now playing with other furballs and wagging her tail, hinting she is happy in the new home.
