You might assume a newly rescued dog would spend most of their time enjoying the comforts of their new home. But for some, the temptation to explore never really goes away. A viral TikTok video captured a rescue dog named Dooby attempting a sneaky escape from his owner’s property. What began as a seemingly serious bid for freedom quickly turned into a hilarious moment after the pup realized he had been caught in the act.
Rescue dog almost escapes before owner catches him
The clip was shared by TikTok user @milolunaseries, who recently welcomed Dooby into her home. Text over the video reads, “The dog that I rescued trying to escape,” setting the stage for what initially appears to be a concerning situation.
In the footage, Dooby can be seen carefully working his way through the property’s main gate. The Chihuahua moves slowly and cautiously, appearing determined to squeeze through the narrow opening without attracting attention. For a few seconds, it appears that his plan might actually succeed. However, before he can run away, his owner spots what is happening and calls attention to his attempted getaway.
Instead of continuing his escape, the dog immediately stops and looks back toward his owner. He then gives her the puppy-dog eyes before retreating back the same way he came. The sheepish expression and slow turnaround made it look as though he knew he had been caught in the act.
Meanwhile, his mom poked fun at the situation in the video’s caption, writing, “Omg now I’m questioning everything I’ve done for him.”
Fortunately, any worries about Dooby being unhappy in his new home were quickly eased. The video later cuts to footage taken about 10 minutes afterward, showing the rescue dog cuddling up to his owner and playfully seeking attention.
The comments section quickly filled with jokes and observations about Dooby’s actions. One viewer humorously suggested, “He probably met someone on the internet, be careful.” Another called it “the most politest, calm and cute escape I have ever seen.”
