Thumper, a rescue dog with three legs, has gone viral in a video about a routine that started as a joke and somehow became a daily task. The Pit Bull’s dad, @drewbridge20, shared an adorable video showing Thumper being scooped up into his arms before putting him down for an inspection, as if Thumper were a small aircraft about to take off. The dog, for his part, remains calm and steady throughout the maintenance check.
Rescue dog wants a ‘maintenance check’ after owner does it once as a joke
The rescue dog’s dad does not leave anything unchecked in the video, beginning with Thumper’s teeth and assessing everything all the way to his tail. He says, “Okay. Ready? Teefs? Good. Ears? Good. Neck? Good. Front leg? Good. Nub? Good. Bellington? Good. Back legs? Good. Back leg? Good. Rudder? Yep, up and down, side to side,” before asking, “Ready?” and launching the dog forward with a “Let’s go.”
All the while, the family’s other dog stands by barking like an air traffic controller refusing to let a single item slide.
The on-screen caption explains the origin story — “Imagine you pretend your tripod rescue pitbull is a plane one time and now every morning he won’t get out of bed unless you do a maintenance check.” Meanwhile, the caption under the video adds, “We did it one time as a joke and now I have to tell dog sitters they have to do this or he won’t get up for the day.”
Many viewers commented on the barking dog, with one writing, “The other dog acting like air traffic controller, confirming the checklist.” Meanwhile, another person joked, “Bro. There was no airplane noise involved here. Extremely disappointing.” But a pet sitter chimed in with genuine appreciation, writing, “As a pet sitter; this is the kinda information I need/want,” adding, “Here to take over all the rituals, and keep those babies happy with their funny little routines.”
Thumper’s dad also posted another video showing the routine, proving that the rescue dog’s maintenance check is a sweet binding agreement between him and his human.
