Rescue Dog Who Had a Cat Sibling in Previous Home Bonds With Feline

A sweet video from @petethegoodboygsd on Instagram, featuring a rescue dog and a cat, proves that some friendships do not need long introductions. In the video, a German Shepherd named Pete follows a very tolerant black cat at the local Ace Hardware. He refuses to let the cat out of his sight, and the cat does not seem to mind it. The caption reads, “He approached that cat like he just reunited with an old friend.”

Rescue dog bonds with cat like an ‘old friend’

In the video, the rescue dog follows the store cat around like a furry shadow, while his mom constantly encourages him with a warm, “Good job, Peter.” Meanwhile, the on-screen caption explains, “My senior rescue had a cat sibling in his previous home… now this is his reaction whenever he sees the Ace Hardware cat,” showing how emotionally connected dogs can be.

Pete is not just playing around. Dogs carry emotional maps of their past, and for a rescue like him, the memory of a feline housemate is seemingly still in his mind. Besides, cross-species bonds can be surprisingly deep in canines, especially in breeds like German Shepherds, who tend to take the whole concept of “pack” pretty seriously — which is clear from Pete’s face and body language in the video.

Viewers turned the comment section into a campaign for Pete to get a cat of his own. One person demanded, “GET THAT MAN A CAT STAT,” while another pleaded, “Someone bring me back here when she gets Peter his own cat,” and a third viewer offered a more tender observation, writing, “Momma, he misses his friend. Kitty was a great sport about the hello.”

The rescue dog in the video ultimately proves that he is ready for another cat sibling, and viewers seem to be hoping that his mom gets him one soon.
