Songwriter Lawn Adkins is used to singing for a living, but her pup Denver is a very tough audience member. In a viral video with over 4.8 million views, this dog shows that a simple “come here” from his mom won’t cut it with him.
While his sibling follows directions immediately, Denver stays firmly planted on the floor. His mom tries everything from clicking sounds to a normal voice, but he just stares back blankly. It turns out that Denver only accepts one very specific cue to move his paws out of the office doorway.

The clip shows Lawn working late, so she obviously needs to be in her home office. She stands in the doorway, telling her two pups to leave. The smaller dog obliges right away, but Denver behaves like a stubborn Black Lab who decided he can’t hear his mom. He sits right in the middle of the room and acts like he suddenly went deaf.
Denver’s mom calls him nicely, yet he stays completely still on the rug. He is simply waiting for a performance worthy of a major stage. Then, as we see in the video, the dog’s mom gives in and sings his name with the power of a Whitney Houston ballad. The second she hits those dramatic notes, Denver pops up and wags his tail.
This pup finally leaves because he got the star treatment he was looking for. Actually, this habit started when he was a puppy and was terrified of the hardwood stairs. Lawn says in the comments section that she had to sing to cheer him on back then, and then it kind of stuck.
