Dog Wants To Sit on Mom’s Lap but Can’t as She’s Driving

Car rides are usually for snacks and scenery (and sometimes the vet), but some passengers have much higher expectations for their travel experience. Sugar is a six-year-old Bulldog living in Connecticut who definitely thinks the back seat is for peasants. Over at @bessie_the_bullie, this sweet girl is going viral for refusing to accept that she cannot be a lap dog while her mom is driving. Watching this dog try to negotiate her way into the front seat is hilarious.

Dog wants to come to car’s front seat from back as mom is driving

The video starts with Sugar leaning against a mesh car seat cover under a clear sunny sky. But she isn’t interested in the view through the sunroof. Instead, she is too busy trying to climb into the front. She even puts a heavy paw on her mom’s shoulder to get some attention. This breed is famously determined and stubborn when they want something specific.

When she realizes she can’t get past the car seat cover, Sugar lets out a very loud grumble to complain about her situation. This dog clearly believes her mom should prioritize cuddles over driving safely. Mom cannot help but laugh as she films the entire dramatic meltdown from the front seat.

She tells Sugar that she is absolutely not coming into the front today. This news makes the pup look incredibly sad as she hangs onto the barrier. One viewer joked that the car feels like a trap. Another person mentioned that setting boundaries is good because once they win, they never forget. It is a relatable struggle for anyone with a needy pet.

Nearly 17,000 people have already liked the video because of Sugar’s spicy personality. Someone in the comments called her a spicy meatball. Her owner simply calls her a “backseat driver” in the caption. Someone else mentioned it is wild how similar this behavior is across the entire breed. She just wants to be wherever her favorite human is sitting.
