Watching a dog discover how to be a dog for the first time is actually the best thing. And the Instagram handle @seniorboybruce documents one such journey of a rescued senior Golden Retriever named Bruce. This ten-year-old spent his earlier years in a shed without any comforts. He originally had no idea what to do with stuffed toys when he first arrived. It took him months to feel safe enough to even pick something up. But as we see in this clip, his transformation into a playful pup is incredible.
Senior Golden Retriever was once hesitant to play with toys, but is hooked now
At the beginning of the video, Bruce sits on the floor with a wagging tail and a happy lip smack. He looks up at his mom with so much anticipation as she asks if he is ready for his surprise. Mom then brings the toy in front of the camera and then offers it to Bruce, who takes it gently at first. Then he suddenly yanks it away with a playful turn.
He heads straight to the carpet to parade his prize around. This senior Golden Retriever loves to show off his toys and his collection. Therefore, he even props one leg on the couch to make sure everyone sees his treasure.
His journey to this moment was not easy at all. Bruce was rescued from a backyard breeder, where he lived in a shed. He arrived with heartworms and infections and was terrified of stairs and even the sound of a TV. His family actually slept on the couch with him for two months. They wanted him to feel secure in his new home. As a result, he is now healthy and officially heartworm negative. And he finally realized that his new toys are actually fun and not something to fear anymore.
His mom is proud of his progress. She says the joy on his face is the best reward. Over two thousand people have liked his latest celebration. One viewer mentioned that love changes everything. He is even best friends with his feline siblings now. Bruce proves that it is never too late to play and is finally making up for lost years with excitement.
